SCHATZ CONCLUDES ‘DOWN UNDER’ TOUR

BRISBANE, QUS (Jan. 8) – The ending wasn’t quite the one Donny Schatz was hoping for on Tuesday night at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway near Brisbane. The reigning World of Outlaws STP Sprint cars champion was looking to score a victory in the fourth annual Capalaba Wreckers Sprintcar Cup, but unfortunately the Fargo, N.D. racer didn’t finish the 35-lap main event after getting into the turn three wall behind the wheel of the Monte Motorsport No. 17 Miracle Recreation Equipment/KRE powered J&J.

“We’re certainly disappointed things didn’t go a little better tonight,” admitted Schatz, who will return home to the United States on Wednesday. “I can’t thank the guys at Monte Motorsport enough for working as hard as they did while we were here. We struggled to find the right combination, but hopefully they had some fun. John and Kathy Kelly were once again great hosts as well as the entire staff at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway. I really love coming to Australia and racing. We’ve become friends with so many people over here, and I really appreciate meeting more great people every year. Now it’s time to head home and start focusing on our 2013 Outlaws season.”

Schatz competed six nights earning a victory, three seconds, a fifth-place finish and Tuesday night’s DNF. In about a month, he’ll make his first start of 2013 on US soil in Florida.
