BARBERVILLE, FLA – Donny Schatz closed out the 42nd annual UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment at Volusia Speeway Park with another charge through the field to begin his title defense of the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series championship.

Following Saturday night’s disappointing A-Feature, which saw Schatz race the Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) No. 15 STP/Armor All/Chevrolet Performance J&J from eighth into contention before contact with Steve Kinser while the two were battling for second, the Fargo, N.D., was poised to end the week on a good note.

Schatz qualified sixth in the field of 36 cars, but wasn’t able to grab one of the coveted top two spots in heat two, which would have advanced him into the Dash event. Instead, he started from 14th and let the STP machine come to him and he began reeling in the competition. A late red gave him one more chance, but fourth the was the highest he could climb.

The STP team will return to Indiana and prepare for a six-week western swing that begins with a Las Vegas doubleheader on March 6-7.
