DODGE CITY, KS (July 5) – After two difficult results in World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series races, five-time and reigning champion Donny Schatz was looking for something positive to occur. The annual Boot Hilll Showdown at Dodge City Raceway Park provided a little bit of good and bad luck for the driver of the Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) No. 15 STP/Armor All/Chevrolet Performance J&J.

Friday night, he followed leader Jason Sides for most of the 30-lap A-Feature on a rubber down surface before making his winning move coming out of turn four. He narrowly defeated Sides at the line to score his eighth win of the season and 132nd of his WoO career. Saturday, he was on mission to sweep the weekend leading every lap of the dash and then the first 21 of the 30-lap A-feature before a cut right rear tire forced him to the pit area. The Fargo, N.D., racer would rejoin the field in 18th and race back to finish 9th.

“The bottom line is these guys on this STP team will continue to do an incredible job,” said Schatz, who leads the series with eight wins. “We’ve had a few races that we felt like we were going to win and something crazy has happened. That’s racing. Jason (Sides) did everything right Friday and we ended up winning. I’m a firm believer in what comes around goes around, so we’ll be fine.”

Schatz qualified seventh both nights to continue his streak of qualifying inside the inversion. His streak is now up to 23 races and he’ll look to continue that Wednesday at the 25th annual Brad Doty Classic at Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio.

He won the event in 2011 in thrilling fashion chasing down leader Brad Sweet and racing away to victory. The race kicks off Sprint Car racing’s “Month of Money”. On Saturday, Schatz will compete in the 30th Kings Royal. He is a two-time winner (2007, 2009) and is looking to earn his first Eldora victory since that Kings Royal victory back in 2009. He finished fourth and third at Eldora earlier this season.
