After a grueling eight-race in 10 day stretch that closed August and brought in September, five-time and reigning World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series champion Donny Schatz was zeroing in on a record breaking season. He won his 20th WoO A-Feature on Sept. 13 at Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa, and was hoping to add to that number last weekend at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, and Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa.

Unfortunately, rain washed out both Friday’s race at Eldora and then again Saturday at Lernerville. Schatz was looking to close the 70-point gap in the championship standings, but instead will pick up that challenge Saturday at Fremont (Ohio) Speedway.

Schatz leads the series with 20 A-Feature wins and is tied with Pittman with 55 top-10 finishes and hopes to add to those numbers in the final six races of 2013. Following Saturday’s race at Fremont, Schatz will lead the Outlaws back to historic Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., for the 51st Morgan Hughes National Open. Last fall, Schatz became the only driver to win the prestigious event five times.
