BRISBANE, QLD – Donny Schatz won his first feature race of the season at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway in Brisbane on January 1, 2013 and won his final race of 2013 on Saturday night at the same facility. The victory was his 30th of 2013 and continued his Australian tour with his second victory in two starts at the Queensland dirt oval.
Schatz raced his No. 15 STP/Armor All/Chevrolet Performance J&J from position two where he started alongside fellow World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series racer Jason Sides. Schatz grabbed the lead early and showed the way en route to the victory in the KRE Round 7 USA Night 2 feature event.
“The guys worked hard tonight,” admitted the winner. “Every time this car hit the race track it was awesome. We qualified well, were decent in the heats and were able to come through there. The track changed quite a bit (in the feature), more than we expected, but all you can ask is to have a good time and get victories. We got the victory so we’re going to have a good time.”
The five-time WoO STP Sprint Car Series champion paced the 29-car field in qualifying before racing from eighth to third the first heat. He won heat four after starting eighth and finished second in the dash.
Schatz will be back in action in a New Year’s Day event on Wednesday, Jan. 1.
