BRISBANE, QLD – Five-time World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series champion Donny Schatz opened his six-race stint at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway with a knockout performance behind the wheel of his familiar No. 15 STP/Armor All J&J Thursday night in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was only appropriate the locals celebrated Boxing Day with Schatz coming out victorious in the KRE Round 6 USA Night 1 feature event.
“The car could go anywhere tonight,” admitted Schatz, following the victory. “The tires are a little different though. It doesn’t feel the exact same as what we’re used to, and it doesn’t feel the same as what we’re trying to get, but I’m with a group of guys that will figure it out. We’ll look forward to the next race.”
The Fargo, N.D. racer began the evening by driving from eighth to fifth in heat three and then charged from eighth to win heat six. He finished third in the dash event and raced from the third starting position to win the main event.
Schatz will look to make it two-for-two on Saturday night.
