BRISBANE, Queensland – Donny Schatz continued to showcase his incredible talent behind the wheel of Sprint car in his second of seven Australian starts at Ausdeck Patios Archerfield Speedway on Monday night. Schatz thrilled the crowd advancing from 14th to win his second consecutive race behind the wheel of the No. 15 Bad Boy Buggies/Chevrolet Performance J&J.
“It’s been a good start for us,” said Schatz. “Coming here is always something I look forward to. John and Kathy Kelly do a great job at the track. We’re having a great time. Having Lannie (Nichols) here with me for the first time has been fun. We have a good couple nights of racing under our belts and we’re excited for the next few races.”
Following his Boxing Day victory to open his Australian tour, Schatz timed in second quick before racing from fourth to first in heat two and from eighth to third in heat three. The seven-time and reigning World of Outlaws champion led all six laps of the Lucas Oils dash and then accepted the Kratzmann Caravans Challenge to invert the first 14 positions in the feature race. Schatz patiently worked his way forward and ultimately took the lead from Bryan Mann, who started 11th, on lap 34. Schatz continued to get faster and faster as the race unfolded, turning his fastest lap of the race on the 40th and final lap of the feature.
The victory concludes a remarkable 2015 year of racing for Schatz. A year that began with four consecutive victories at Archerfield and was followed by 31 World of Outlaws feature wins that included a ninth Knoxville Nationals triumph for Schatz.
He will look to continue his winning streak in Australia and begin 2016 with a victory Friday in Round 8 of the Supercheap Auto Sprintcar Track Championship.
