BARBERVILLE, FLA – Donny Schatz continued his Florida Speedweeks with an impressive performance Tuesday night behind the wheel of his Schatz Motorsports No. 15 Fargo Petro/Fastlane Car Washes/DKW Transport/K3 Farms Rocket. The World of Outlaws star raced to a sixth place finish in the UMP DIRTcar Late Model Nationals event at Volusia Speedway Park.
“That was a fun night for sure,” said Schatz, who bounced back following Monday’s opener. “I’m out here to learn and just compete. These (late model) guys are so good at what they do. We have the luxury of just trying to get better every night. Last year, we made five of six A-Mains and we wanted to make them all this year. We missed out on that last night, but just tried to be better tonight and we were. I’m excited about what we learned tonight and can’t wait to get back out here tomorrow night. I appreciate the guys helping me down here and the people like Shawn Loken of DKW Transport and Doug and Kathy Zuehl of K3 Farms for getting behind my late model team.”
After barely missing an A-Main transfer in Monday’s event, Schatz came back strong by turning the fastest lap in his qualifying group and finishing second in the opening heat. The finish gave him the seventh position for the 30-lap A-Main. The North Dakota racer was inside the top-10 throughout and narrowly missed a top-five finish.
Schatz returns to action Wednesday for another round of UMP DIRTcar Late Model Nationals before three consecutive nights of competition with the World of Outlaws Late Model series on the half-mile, dirt oval.
