FARGO, N.D. (August 6, 2018) – Following Saturday’s World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series events in Pevely, Missouri, Donny Schatz flew back to his hometown of Minot, N.D. to compete with the Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA) on Sunday evening at Nodak Speedway.

Schatz began the night with an impressive run in his heat race. The driver of the Petro / Fastlane Car Wash No. 15 wheeled his way from eighth to second in the eight-lap heat race, which lined him up on the outside of row two for the 30-lap feature.

Surrounded by the NLRA’s best at the start of the feature, Schatz quickly moved by Shane Edginton and series point leader, Dustin Strand, to take second. Schatz set his sights on five-time NLRA champion, Mike Balcaen, and took the point on lap 11.

Two laps later, lapped traffic slowed Schatz which allowed Balcaen to regain the lead. Schatz found the fast line around the high side to get back by Balcaen with eight laps remaining as Strand followed into second.

A restart with six to go gave Strand one last shot, but Schatz got a great jump on the restart to hold on for his sixth career NLRA victory.

On Friday, August 3 and Saturday, August 4, Schatz was in action at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 with the World of Outlaws. With last year’s Ironman 55 event being postponed due to rain, a $20,000-to-win Ironman 55 event was ran on each night.

After timing in 11th quick in time trials, the nine-time and defending series champion locked himself into the Sears Craftsman Dash with a second-place run in his heat. Schatz started and finished fifth in the dash and ended the night with a ninth-place run in the feature.

On Saturday, Schatz timed in much better with the second fastest lap. Another second place run in his heat set him up for a third-place finish in the dash. Schatz ended the 55-lap feature in the seventh position.

Leaving I-55, Schatz holds a 198 point lead over Brad Sweet atop the World of Outlaws standings. Next up, Schatz will head to the “Sprint Car Capital of the World,” Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. Schatz’s qualifying night will be Wednesday, August 8 at the famed half-mile oval on the Marion County Fairgrounds.
