FARGO, N.D. (April 18, 2019) – The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series returned to the birthplace of the series, Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, last weekend. The two-night, $20,000-to-win Texas Outlaw Nationals were condensed to just one night as Mother Nature washed out Saturday night’s finale.
Schatz, who has three career victories at Devil’s Bowl, charged from fourth to second in his heat race on Friday night, which punched his ticket into the crucial DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash. Following a sixth-place run in the dash, Schatz lined up outside of the third row for the 25-lap main event.
Due to a narrow racing surface, Schatz was only able to advance one position but still collected his eighth top-five finish of the season. That ties him with Brad Sweet for the most top-five finishes thus far in the season.
“I was bummed that the second night at Devil’s Bowl got rained out. We’ve had some success there as of late so it would have been nice to get that one in,” said Schatz. “I was pleased with the effort of my Tony Stewart Racing team on Friday, though. I think if we could have moved up a few spots in the dash, we would have been sitting better for the feature, but now we know what adjustments we need to make in the future.”
Twelve races into 2019, Schatz currently sits second in the point standings, just two markers behind Sweet.
The World of Outlaws will have a rare off weekend over Easter, but things fire right back up the following weekend with a tripleheader in the Midwest.
“I’m looking forward to celebrating Easter weekend with family. It’ll be nice to have an off weekend before things really get busy with the Outlaws,” said Schatz. “I hope everybody has a great Easter holiday.”
The “Greatest Show on Dirt” will make their only appearance of the season to Lake Ozark Speedway in Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri on Friday, April 26th, followed by a visit to Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri on Saturday, April 27th. The weekend wraps up Sunday, April 28th with a stop at the fan-favorite Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois.
Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart Racing team would like to thank Rush Truck Centers, Ford Performance, Curb Records, Sage Fruit, Absolute Automation & Security and J&J Auto Racing for their continued support.
