NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 31, 2019) – Donny Schatz drove his Tony Stewart / Curb-Agajanian Racing No. 15 into victory lane Friday night at Nashville’s Fairgrounds Speedway with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars.
The win for Schatz was the third of the season and his second career Outlaws win in the state of Tennessee.
Schatz started third on the grid for the 30-lap main event. The 10-time and defending series champion moved into the second position on the opening lap before settling in behind race leader, Bill Balog.
Balog controlled the pace for the majority of the race, but found himself hung up in lapped traffic in the closing stages. The multi-time IRA champion made one bobble exiting turn four with eight laps to go and that was all Schatz needed. The Fargo, N.D. driver capitalized on the opportunity and drove around Balog to take the point.
Balog tried to cross under Schatz in turns one and two, but Schatz slammed the door exiting the corner. Once out front, Schatz was able to build up a cushion and cruise to the $15,000 payday. Brad Sweet came home second, followed by Balog.
The win for Schatz was his first victory in the state of Tennessee since June 8th, 2001 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Schatz holds a 52 point lead over Sweet atop the World of Outlaws standings heading into Saturday’s $25,000-to-win finale at Fairgrounds Speedway.
Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank Toco Warranty, Ford Performance, Curb Records, Sage Fruit, Absolute Automation & Security and J&J Auto Racing for their continued support.
