ROSSBURG, Ohio (July 20, 2019) – The 36th annual, $175,000-to-win Kings Royal at the famed Eldora Speedway is upon us. Donny Schatz and the Tony Stewart / Curb-Agajanian Racing No. 15 team are on a roll and are poised to wear the crown and hold the scepter in victory lane by night’s end.

Since the first night of the Jackson Nationals at Jackson Motorplex on June 27th, Schatz has finished on the podium in nine of 11 events, including three wins. Schatz comes into the 36th edition of the Kings Royal fresh off his 18th career triumph at the Big E and his sixth win of the season.

In last night’s Knight Before the Kings Royal main event, Schatz started on the pole and led all 30 trips around the high-banked half-mile oval.

David Gravel closed in on Schatz in lapped traffic in the closing stages, but the 10-time and defending Outlaws champion was able to hold on for the win.

“Eldora has been really good to me,” said Schatz in victory lane.

“My dad always taught me to worry about what’s in front of me, not what’s behind me,” Schatz said of the pressure by Gravel in the final laps. “It’s paid off this long in my career.”

Schatz is a five-time and defending winner of the Kings Royal and has won three consecutive crowns. No other driver has won the event back-to-back.
