ELDON, Mo. (May 30, 2020) – Backing up a strong charge on Friday night, Donny Schatz parked his Tony Stewart / Curb-Agajanian Racing No. 15 in victory lane on Saturday night at Lake Ozark Speedway with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars.

The win was Schatz’s second of the season and the second of his career at Lake Ozark Speedway.

“I was glad to get the win. It’s about time. It feels like it’s been forever,” said Schatz with a big smile in victory lane.

Schatz, who started in the fourth position, moved forward to challenge Kyle Larson for the lead on lap 12 of 35. Being patient in lapped traffic, the 10-time World of Outlaws champion moved around Larson using the extreme low side of the speedway exiting turn two. Three laps later, Larson moved past Schatz to regain the lead at the same spot on the race track.

Schatz remained a threat until the caution flag flew with nine laps remaining. On the ensuing single-file restart, Larson took off and looked to have the race in hand.

A late-race caution set up a green-white-checkered restart, which was where Schatz made his move. Schatz went to the high side of turns one and two as the green flag resumed the race and got a run on Larson down the back straightaway. At the opposite end of the speedway, Schatz executed a textbook slide job to steal the lead.

Larson came charging back on the final lap, but Schatz was too strong as he went on to claim his 296th career World of Outlaws victory.

“I don’t even know what to say. Kyle is a good racer. I kind of had to go where he didn’t,” said Schatz after the race. “It was so hard to pass on an open track, especially with the single-file restarts. These Advance Profession guys did an awesome job tuning on the car and making adjustments. The track slowed down a lot and we had that Ford power tuned just right.

“On that green-white-checkered, I decided I was just going to send it – Kyle would have done the same thing,” Schatz recalled. “I got a run on him in (turns) one and two and we went in turn three and I just went (for it).”

On Friday night, Schatz scored a podium finish with a drive from 11th to third in the 30-lap main event.

Schatz entered the weekend 40 points behind leader Logan Schuchart in the point standings. Following the Lake Ozark Speedway doubleheader, he now sits 28 points out of the lead in the third position.

Next weekend, Schatz will follow the Outlaw tour to Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin as the one-third mile oval will host the Greatest Show on Dirt both Friday, June 5th and Saturday, June 6th.

The events at River Cities Speedway and Granite City Speedway originally scheduled for this weekend have been canceled.

Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank all of their great partners for their continued support!
