KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 12, 2020) – Donny Schatz and the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian team hit the track last Friday, May 8th at the famed Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. The event was the first World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event held since the DIRTcar Nationals ended on February 9th at Volusia Speedway Park in Florida.
The invitation-only event had 48-cars in attendance and counted as a full World of Outlaws points-paying show. Schatz, debuting the Carquest Auto Parts colors on the Ford-powered No. 15, began the night by timing in 15th quick in qualifying group two.
The 10-time World of Outlaws champion put on a show from the eighth starting position in heat race three, marching his way up to the third position by the end of the eight-lap race and securing a transfer position into the main event.
Lining up 10th in the 30-lap, $15,000-to-win feature, Schatz skillfully moved forward from the drop of the green flag.
By race’s end, Schatz crossed under Justin Clark’s checkers in the sixth position, marking his fourth consecutive top 10 finish in 2020 in as many attempts.
“Hats off to the World of Outlaws, Knoxville Raceway, and everyone involved who made our return to racing possible. It was great to get back on the track again. I wish we could have been racing in front of our great fans, but I hope everybody enjoyed the show on DIRTVision,” said Schatz. “We had decent speed all night, we just kind of dug ourselves in a hole during qualifying. These Advance Professional guys did a great job all night and we learned a lot that we can use moving forward.”
The next scheduled World of Outlaws event is set for May 22-23 at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri. Schatz has two career victories at the one-third mile high-banked oval with those wins coming in 2015 and 2006.
Schatz currently sits fourth in the World of Outlaws point standings, 18 markers behind leader, Logan Schuchart.
