FARGO, N.D. (June 16, 2020) – Donny Schatz picked up a runner-up finish on Friday night to highlight the weekend as the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series returned to Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. Schatz also charged his way forward to finish 11th on Saturday night at the Sprint Car Capital of the World.

This weekend, the World of Outlaws head to Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Indiana for another doubleheader weekend which kicks off on Friday, June 19 and continues through Saturday, June 20th.

A heat race win backed up by a second-place finish in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash put Schatz on the outside of the front row for the 25-lap main event on Friday night at Knoxville. The 10-time Knoxville Nationals champion used the side high of the speedway to drive past David Gravel for the lead on lap two. Schatz led unchallenged until the caution flew on lap nine.

Following two attempts at a restart, Schatz had his hands full with Kyle Larson.

Larson was able to find a way around Schatz as the field completed lap 10. Schatz remained within striking distance of Larson for several laps, but, ultimately, Larson was too strong as Schatz had to settle for second.

“He just found a different line in (turns) one and two,” Schatz said. “I didn’t think it would stay that long, so I didn’t try it. You can’t be making any mistakes. But, if you’re going to make them, now is the time to do it. It was a real solid night.”

The weekend concluded with a drive from 17th to 11th in the main event on Saturday.

“We just got behind after qualifying and had to play catch up the rest of the night,” said Schatz of timing in 11th quick in the first flight of time trials. “This Advance Professional team worked hard all night. We had good speed in the feature, there was just a lot of fast cars to pass.”

The Tony Stewart / Curb-Agajanian Racing team switches their focus to Tri-State Speedway this coming weekend. In 21 attempts, Schatz is winless at the quarter-mile oval. There are only a select few tracks on the World of Outlaws circuit at which Schatz has yet to win and Tri-State Speedway is one of those. His best finish came in 2008 when he finished third – his only podium at the track.

Schatz currently sits second in the point standings, 26 points behind leader Brad Sweet.

Tune In:
Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June 20 on DIRTVision (Fri. & Sat.) at 7 p.m. (ET) and on CBS Sports Network (Sat.) at 9 p.m. (ET).
