FARGO, N.D. (August 11, 2020) – Last weekend the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series returned to the tight and tricky one-third mile of Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo. Coming into the weekend, Schatz sat third in the series standings, 26 points behind leader Brad Sweet. Following the double-header at I-55, Schatz moved into a tie for second in the standings with Logan Schuchart and is now 20 markers out of the points lead.
The 10-time series champion began the weekend on Friday night by timing in fourth quick and winning his heat race over Sweet. A fourth-place run in the dash put Schatz on the outside of the second row for the feature.
Schatz raced in the third position for the majority of the 35-lapper, but in a heated battle with Schuchart and Rico Abreu in the closing laps, he was relegated to a fourth-place finish to collect his 14th top five finish of the season.
On Saturday, $20,000 was on the line with the running of the Ironman 55. Schatz started sixth on the grid for the 55-lap main event, and battled several drivers throughout the race for the fifth position. In the final stages of the event, Schatz was running in the sixth position. However, he found a way around early race leader Jacob Allen with two laps to go to capture a top five finish.
“It was a solid weekend for us, overall,” said Schatz. “We showed some speed here and there, but we just didn’t quite have what it took to drive through the field like we needed to get up front. We learned a lot on this Advance Professional / Carquest car and I’m really looking forward to getting to Knoxville this week.”
Up next for the Tony Stewart / Curb-Agajanian Racing No. 15 team will be the One and Only at the famed half-mile on the Marion County Fairgrounds in Knoxville, Iowa, beginning on Thursday, August 13th and continuing through Saturday, August 15th. On Saturday, the three-day special at Knoxville Raceway will conclude with the $50,000-to-win Capitani Classic.
Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank all of their great partners for their continued support!
