FARGO, N.D. (August 31, 2020) – The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series continued their 2020 campaign through the Midwest over the weekend with trips to U.S. 36 Raceway in Osborn, Mo. on Saturday night and a return to I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb. on Sunday.
After timing in ninth quick and finishing third in his heat race, Donny Schatz started ninth on the grid for the feature in his Tony Stewart / Curb-Agajanian Racing No. 15 J&J. In typical Schatz fashion, the 10-time World of Outlaws champion quietly worked his way up the running order to claim a fifth-place finish at the completion of 35 laps.
After Saturday’s event, the DieHard / Ford Performance team got the car loaded up and made the two-and-a-half-hour drive to I-80 Speedway for Sunday’s event.
In the three most recent events at the four-tenths mile oval, Schatz was second in each one of them (2014-2016). I-80 Speedway is one of the few tracks on the Outlaw schedule at which the Fargo, N.D. Native has yet to win.
Schatz seemed destined to change that stat early on as he set Quick Time in qualifying and cruised to a heat race win to earn himself a trip to the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash. A number eight pill draw mired Schatz back in the pack for the dash, but he moved forward to finish sixth.
Schatz ran inside the top five for the majority of the 30-lapper, but fell back to seventh on a late-race restart.
Schatz currently sits third in the standings 70 points behind both Logan Schuchart and Brad Sweet.
This weekend, the World of Outlaws continues their trek through the Midwest as they gear up for a doubleheader weekend at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D.
