FARGO, N.D. (September 28, 2020) – Last week Donny Schatz and the Tony Stewart / Curb-Agajanian Racing No. 15 team endured one of the busiest stretches of racing seen all year. A five-race swing between two sanctioning bodies took them to four different tracks in three different states in five consecutive nights.

When the final checkered flag of the week flew on Saturday night at Lernerville Speedway in Pa., Schatz recorded four top 10 finishes, highlighted by a win at Plymouth Speedway on Thursday.

The win was Schatz’s 298th of his career with the World of Outlaws and his first at Plymouth Speedway. Schatz took the point on the 20th circuit of the 35-lap main event after getting by Gio Scelzi and taking advantage of misfortune from leader Sheldon Haudenschild. Schatz led the final 15 laps to collect his fourth victory of the season.

“These guys kept digging. We know the road to the top and we know the road to the bottom. These guys just keep working. They’re trying to get a handle on the horsepower (of the FPS-410 engine),” said Schatz post-race. “This is a different combination for tonight. Obviously, everything that’s happening is going in the right direction. We are happy about that.”

From there, the series headed to Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio on Friday night.

Schatz battled inside the top five with Rico Abreu and Parker Price-Miller for the majority of the event, taking the checkers in the fourth position to record his 20th top five finish of the season.

The week came to an end on Saturday at Lernerville, site of Schatz’s $25,000 Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup victory back in July. After starting 13th on the grid, Schatz moved up three positions to round out the top 10 by race’s end.

The 10-time series champion currently sits third in the standings, 98 points out of the lead.

“Until that last night is over, anything is possible. It’s obviously going to take some sort of luck,” said Schatz of the championship points race. “We’ll just see what happens. There’ve been many nights where everybody wanted to throw their hands in the air and go another direction, but that’s not what they’re made of. Hats off to my guys, Jakob, Brad, Scuba. They expect to be winning, as do I. When you’re not, it’s not the funnest thing in the world.”

Schatz competed with the All Star Circuit of Champions on Sept. 22-23 at Eldora Speedway for the Governors Reign. The 18-time winner with the All Stars picked up a 10th-place finish on night one and had to settle for an 18th place result on night two after nose wing damage on the opening start forced him into the work area after the first caution.

This weekend, the Outlaws head to Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa. for the richest Sprint Car race of the season – the National Open.

Schatz is a five-time winner of the National Open. His last victory came in 2012.
