FARGO, N.D. (March 4, 2021) – It’s been nearly a month since the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars series was last in action at the DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park. Since then, weather and COVID-19 restrictions that canceled or postponed events in the south, southeast and west coast, have kept the series at idle.

All that changes this Friday and Saturday night as the Greatest Show on Dirt heads back to the Sunshine State to resume their 2021 campaign. On tap first will be a return to Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla., followed by a visit to East Bay Raceway Park near Tampa, Fla.

In four starts at the half-mile D-shaped oval of Volusia Speedway Park so far this season, Schatz has two podium finishes. His lone finish outside of the top 10 came on Sunday, Feb. 7th during the World of Outlaws event when he had a comfortable lead in the closing laps until an ignition box failed on the Carquest / Ford Performance No. 15, relegating him to a 15th place finish.

Sitting at 299 career World of Outlaws wins, Schatz is looking forward to getting back at Volusia to maybe get his chance at redemption.

“It’s not something I really think about much, but it’s definitely something I’d like to get sooner rather than later,” said Schatz of capturing his 300th win. “It seems as though every time I come upon a milestone, it takes me a while to get over that hump and actually get it. That’s just the nature of the beast sometimes.”

Schatz is currently eighth in the World of Outlaws standings, 32 markers out of the lead, but that is not indicative of the speed he’s had through the first two races of the season.

Schatz picked up a win with the All Star Circuit of Champions at East Bay Raceway Park on Feb. 2nd. On Saturday, March 6th, the World of Outlaws will make their first appearance to the Clay by the Bay in 38 years.

Before Schatz ran with the All Stars at East Bay in February, his most recent visit to the speedway came in the early 1990s.

“I’m excited to get back there with the Outlaws,” said Schatz. “It’s a fun short track and a unique surface. The track literally changes lap to lap with it being so close to the bay. That’s what is so fun about it. It’s a really cool place that has a lot of history.”
