FARGO, N.D. (July 12, 2021) – Less than 24 hours after making his NASCAR debut with the Camping World Truck Series at Knoxville Raceway, Donny Schatz was back aboard the Carquest / Ford Performance No. 15 with the World of Outlaws at Wilmot Speedway in Wisconsin on Saturday night.
It was a strong night for Schatz, who transferred into the main event by way of a 10th-place qualifying run and a third-place finish in his heat. That put him seventh on the grid for the 40-lap main event.
The first 15 laps of the feature were plagued by red flags and cautions, but once the race found a green flag stretch, Schatz found himself battling for position inside the top five.
After getting by Aaron Reutzel for fourth, Schatz took advantage of a mechanical failure on Sheldon Haudenschild’s No. 17 to assume third.
Schatz became a factor for the win late as he reeled in Brad Sweet and Logan Schuchart in the closing stages, but ran out of laps.
Schatz crossed the line in third to round out the podium.
“We were decent… we could stick with them,” Schatz said after the race. “We just needed some more traffic. That one restart we went from sixth to third, but the caution killed us. We’re starting to get things going the right way, though. This is a good time to find some of that momentum.”
The World of Outlaws gear up for a big five-race week that kicks off Tuesday with the Brad Doty Classic at Attica Raceway Park.
Schatz is a four-time winner of the Brad Doty Classic, picking up titles in 2011, 2013, 2016 and most recently in 2018.
Schatz’s four career wins at Attica are the most of any other driver in the 17 events the speedway has hosted with the World of Outlaws.
Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank all of their great partners for their continued support!
