FARGO, N.D. (September 13, 2021) – Donny Schatz raced his Carquest / Ford Performance No. 15 to a top five finish in the Gold Cup Race of Champions on Saturday night at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California. The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars will wrap up the west coast swing this weekend with a visit to Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, California before making the trek east to Eldora Speedway in Ohio and Lernerville Speedway in Pennsylvania the following week.
After driving from 22nd to 13th to open the weekend on Friday, Schatz came back much stronger on Saturday.
A third place finish in his heat put the 10-time series champion ninth on the grid for Saturday’s 40-lap main event.
Schatz took his time working his way to the front, cracking the top five on the lap 25 restart. Schatz took advantage of front runner Tanner Carrick’s mechanical woes and made a great move to get by Kasey Kahne and Ryan Robinson as the race resumed to get from seventh to fourth in one lap.
Schatz went on to take the checkers in the fourth position.
This Saturday, the World of Outlaws return to Keller Auto Speedway for the first time since 2019. Schatz has one career win at the one-third mile oval, which came in 2013 when he started third and led 24 laps.
