FARGO, N.D. (September 8, 2021) – The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series made their long-awaited return to the Pacific Northwest over Labor Day weekend with a big four-race swing through Washington.

The action kicked off with three straight nights at Skagit Speedway in Burlington for the Sage Fruit Skagit Nationals. Following a fourth-place finish on night one, Donny Schatz scored a runner-up finish on Saturday.

Schatz battled with leader David Gravel early on before slipping back to fourth at the midway point of the feature. With under 10 laps to go, Schatz made a late-race charge forward amid heavy lapped traffic.

Schatz was able to move by James McFadden for third before sneaking underneath David Gravel to reclaim the second position.

Schatz went on to finish second behind Brad Sweet.

“It was a high-speed chess match. You had to keep moving around,” said Schatz after the race. “These Carquest guys did a great job. The car felt pretty solid.”

The Sage Fruit Skagit Nationals concluded with a seventh-place run for Schatz.

The series headed to Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma on Monday. Schatz was the winner of four of the last six events at the speedway entering the evening.

The Tony Stewart / Curb-Agajanian Racing No. 15 had speed all night long, timing in second quick and racing to a second-place run in the heat. Schatz then followed that up by finishing second in the dash. The 30-lap feature yielded a fourth-place result, giving Schatz his 36th top five of the season – second-most on the tour.

Schatz sits fourth in the standings, 232 points behind leader Brad Sweet heading into this weekend’s Gold Cup Race of Champions of Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California. Schatz has six career wins at the tight quarter-mile.

Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank all of their great partners for their continued support!
