FARGO, N.D. (October 25, 2021) – Donny Schatz captured his third consecutive podium finish on Friday night at Lakeside Speedway with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series. The runner-up finish for Schatz propelled him past Carson Macedo into third in the series point standings, 158 markers behind leader Brad Sweet.
Schatz grabbed a transfer into the Micro-Lite Dash by way of a second-place run to his Tony Stewart Racing teammate Kerry Madsen in heat race #3 on Friday, in what was the lone event of the weekend for the Outlaws.
After a fifth-place run in the dash, Schatz lined up on the inside of row three for the 30-lap main event.
Schatz ran in fifth until he picked up a two-for-one pass on Brad Sweet and Aaron Reutzel in turn four to move into third.
A handful of cautions throughout the race kept the leaders out of traffic. Gio Scelzi took the lead from Madsen with three to go before Schatz reeled in Madsen in the final laps.
Schatz took the runner-up position from his teammate coming to the white flag and finished second behind Scelzi at the checkers.
“I was kind of hoping we would have gotten into lapped traffic, but we just kept getting yellows. We got up to the front at the end. Gio was really fast on those restarts, then would fade a little bit as the laps went on. It’s just the way it played out. We were decent at the end. The Carquest guys did a great job and made the right adjustments.”
The runner-up finish was the fourth for Schatz at Lakeside Speedway over the last five events. Over that span, which dates back to 2017, his average finish is an impressive 3.2.
Up next, the series heads to Lawton (OK) Speedway on Friday, Oct. 29 and Devils Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, TX on Saturday, Oct. 30.
Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank all of their great partners for their continued support!
