FARGO, N.D. (April 5, 2022) – The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series had just one event on the schedule this weekend, after Friday night’s rainout at Lawton Speedway in Oklahoma, which was a trip to Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas.
For the second consecutive race, Schatz turned in a podium finish aboard his Carquest / Ford Performance / Sage Fruit No. 15.
“You’ve got to crawl before you can walk and walk before you can run. We’ve been getting a lot better,” said a pleased Schatz on the front stretch after the race.
Schatz started third on the grid for the 30-lap, $20,000 to win Texas Outlaw Nationals feature. Schatz rode in that third position until the leaders encountered lapped traffic. There, Schatz made a power move around the outside of Brian Brown to take over the second spot.
The 10-time series champion set his sights on leader Brent Marks, but wasn’t able close in on the Pennsylvania runner on the extremely fast and tacky racing surface.
“The race track was pretty demanding, I don’t remember the last time a race ended and I couldn’t get my shield up because of all the mud being caked on,” said Schatz. “Brent got away there in traffic and I just had to move around (the race track) because I was so tight. I was trying a few things but didn’t have enough tricks to get a win. Second is better than third so we’ll take it and we’ll go on to next weekend.”
With the second place finish, Schatz gained 10 points on leader Brad Sweet in the standings and currently sits fifth, 96 markers out of the lead.
Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank all of their great partners for their continued support!
