FARGO, N.D. (August 2, 2022) – Donny Schatz returned to victory lane on Sunday evening with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series at Weedsport Speedway in New York. Schatz’s 304th career Outlaws win came with a clean sweep of the night as he set Quick Time in qualifying, won his heat, the dash and led all 30 laps of the main event.

Schatz also had a strong run during Saturday’s event, finishing second to David Gravel.

Schatz jumped out to the early lead as the green flag flew over Sunday’s feature. Schatz held a slim margin over fellow front row starter Brock Zearfoss until he found his groove and stretch out his lead around the lap 10 mark.

The 10-time series champion had a comfortable lead during the mid-way portion of the race until David Gravel began reeling in the Carquest / Ford Performance No. 15.

With Gravel right on his rear bumper with five to go, Schatz had to be perfect picking his way through traffic on the extremely slick racing surface.

Schatz did just that, holding off Gravel by three car lengths at the checkers.

“We probably weren’t the best car at the end, but we were able to get out front, stay there, and get through traffic well,” said Schatz post-race in victory lane. “The Carquest guys did a great job. It’s been a pretty tough learning curve over the last couple of years, but I feel like we are getting a good handle on (the FPS 410 engine). We still aren’t quite where we want to be at the end of these races, but it helps to start closer to the front. Getting qualified well is important and we were able to do that tonight.”

The win was Schatz’s second of the season and third of his career at Weedsport.

Schatz also led early on during Saturday’s feature, grabbing the lead on lap one from the outside of the front row. The driver of the Tony Stewart Racing machine led the opening 12 circuits until Gravel snuck by while Schatz was mired in thick lapped traffic.

With the second and first place finishes over the weekend, Schatz jumped past Logan Schuchart in the standings to move into fifth. He currently sits 172 markers behind leader Brad Sweet.

Next up, Schatz will compete at the Dirt Track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for his debut at the BC39 Wednesday and Thursday with the USAC Midgets. He will then head to Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 for the Ironman weekend Friday and Saturday.

Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank all of their great partners for their continued support!
