FARGO, N.D. (September 6, 2022) – The World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Series kicked off the West Coast swing over Labor Day weekend with four events in the state of Washington. Ten-time series champion, Donny Schatz, was consistent all weekend long, finishing inside the top 10 in each race and collecting two top-five efforts.
Schatz’s best run of the week came during the first night of action on Thursday at Skagit Speedway with a third place finish.
Schatz followed that up by gaining positions in each of the three remaining feature events on the weekend. He went 10th to seventh on Friday night and 12th to eighth on Saturday night at Skagit, before driving from 11th to capture a fifth-place finish on Monday night at Grays Harbor Raceway.
The series now heads south to Chico, California for the Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway.
Nearly 60 cars are pre-entered for the event, which will feature a split-field format. Schatz is slated to qualify on Friday night before Championship Night on Saturday.
Schatz has caught Sheldon Haudenschild for fourth place in the point standings, sitting just two points behind the driver of the No. 17 heading into this weekend. However, that margin will remain at two points at the conclusion of the weekend as the Gold Cup Race of Champions will award appearance points only across the three nights of racing.
Schatz is a two-time winner of the Gold Cup, taking the checkers in 2004 in the family-owned Schatz Motorsports car and again in 2015 with Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing.
Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank all of their great partners for their continued support!
