CHARLOTTE, N.C. (November 4, 2022) – Donny Schatz returned to victory lane on Friday night at the World Finals at the Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.
Schatz started on the pole and, after running second early on to series point leader Brad Sweet, took the lead on lap five of 30.
“These Advance Auto Parts guys get kicked and they keep finding ways to get out of it,” said Schatz of his Tony Stewart Racing crew. “We had a great car tonight. It’s pretty cool, we have a lot of our partners and future partners here with us tonight. It’s pretty neat to get back to victory lane and salvage some points after last night.”
The win for Schatz comes after a DNF result on Wednesday night when Schatz blew a right rear tire while battling for a position inside the top five.
“It’s been hard to get a grasp on being consistent, but we got a win. Hopefully, we can build on that for tomorrow night and come back and be competitive again,” said Schatz
After taking the lead from Sweet, Schatz drove away to a comfortable 1.5 second lead. The driver of the Carquest / Ford Performance No. 15 was able to maintain that advantage as he encountered lapped traffic, but his lead was erased as the caution flew with two laps to go.
On the ensuing restart, Schatz got a great jump on the start as Sweet had to contend with third place runner Cory Eliason. Eliason was able to work around Sweet for second, but Schatz quickly raced to another comfortable margin.
With the win, Schatz regains the fourth position in the point standings over Sheldon Haudenschild. He now has an 18 point cushion over Haudenschild going into tomorrow night’s season finale.
Schatz now has four wins on the season, 13 wins at the Dirt Track at Charlotte and 306 career World of Outlaws feature wins.
Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank all of their great partners for their continued support!
