KANSAS CITY, Kansas (April 13, 2023) – The inaugural season for the highly anticipated High Limit sprint car series got underway Tuesday night with Shane Stewart’s Heartland of America Showdown at Lakeside Speedway.

A stout field of 56 cars were checked in to battle for the $50,000 top prize and the Tony Stewart Racing entry piloted by Donny Schatz was in contention all night.

Schatz got off to a great start by timing in second quick in his group before going out and winning heat number four.

“The Carquest guys have done a phenomenal job. We qualified really well,” said Schatz after pulling the three for the dash. “We’ve got some of our good motors back and that really shows here tonight. We’ll see if we can’t sneak up there and contend for a win. It would be nice to race for $50,000, but you have to crawl before you walk and walk before you run. But we’re going to try running tonight.”

Schatz rolled off second on the grid for the feature and battled for the lead early on with Tyler Courtney and Rico Abreu. As the race went on, Schatz faded a bit, taking the checkers in the eighth position.

Schatz will head to Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri this weekend as the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series schedule resumes.

Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank all of their great partners for their continued support!
