WEEDSPORT, NY (July 30, 2023) – In the sport of racing, having enough speed to win the race is only half the battle. Luck plays a huge part and without luck, speed alone is not enough to win against the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars.

On Sunday night at New York’s Weedsport Speedway, Schatz had the speed to be a contender during the 35-lap feature, but luck didn’t play in his favor.

The 10-time series champion battled for a podium position for much of the first half of the race, running the extreme low side of the speedway while the leaders rode the thin cushion on top.

Making up ground on the front runners, Schatz appeared to have the advantage being the only driver in the top five running that lane.

The race was restarted on lap 19 and heading into the first corner, Schatz and Sheldon Haudenschild made contact. Schatz spun in front of the field, collecting James McFadden, Gio Scelzi and Brock Zearfoss, but Schatz was able to keep his car under power.

The Tony Stewart / Curb-Agajanian Racing team got Schatz fixed up to restart the race, where he lined up outside of the top 15.

The Carquest / Ford Performance No. 15 still had speed as Schatz was able to salvage a top 10 finish by taking the checkers in 10th.

Next up, Schatz will head to Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 for the Ironman 55 weekend at the tight, high-banked oval in Pevely, Missouri.

Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank all of their great partners for their continued support!
