FARGO, N.D. (August 26, 2025) – Donny Schatz hit the track in North Dakota last weekend with the most hype from race fans in nearly 20 years. Schatz brought the Lunstra Motorsports / ShopHusets.com / JVI Group No. 15 to a pair of his home track, River Cities Speedway on Friday and Red River Valley Speedway on Saturday, and scored top 10 runs in each event.
On Friday at the high-banked bullring of River Cities Speedway, an unusually fast and tacky track made passing fairly difficult. Still, Schatz was able to advance one spot in his heat race to finish fourth, lining him up 13th on the grid for the feature.
Schatz quickly moved into the top 10 by lap six and ran as high as sixth during the halfway point of the race, but a late restart shuffled him back to eighth at the checkers.
On Saturday, the series headed 80 miles south to Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo. Schatz again moved up a spot in his heat race to finish third and grab the seventh starting position for the feature.
Schatz battled for position inside of the top 10 all race long, contending with Skylar Gee, Bill Balog and Buddy Kofoid. He finished in the seventh spot, which was his best finish to date in the Lunstra Motorsports car.
Schatz was also in action on Tuesday night at Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wisconsin for the World of Outlaws’ debut at the track, where he finished 14th.
Schatz will now head to Lunstra Motorsports’ home track, Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D., The Lunstra team is based just a few miles from the speedway near Sioux Falls. The two-night L.G. Everist Huset’s Shootout this Saturday and Sunday will be the final events that Schatz will be paired up with Lunstra.
As was announced on Monday, Schatz will be driving Kevin Kozlowski’s Works Limited car, wrenched by Paul Silva. That swing will kick off Sept. 5-6 and Vado Speedway in New Mexico, and run through Sept. 19-20 at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, California.
Schatz’s nieces, Amelia and Laela Eisenschenk, made their World of Outlaws Sprint Car debuts over the weekend. Both made the main event on Saturday at Red River Valley Speedway, finishing 22nd and 23rd respectively. The Outlaw Sprint Car starts come less than two months after the duo made starts with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.
