FARGO, N.D. (September 22, 2025) – The three-week West Coast swing came to a close over the weekend for Donny Schatz, Paul Silva, and the Works Limited team at Tulare, California’s Thunderbowl Raceway.
Friday night’s event was canceled due to wet conditions, but on Saturday, Schatz had his best outing of the four races in the Works Limited “W”. Schatz timed in sixth quick out of 37 competitors to open the evening, followed by a third place run in his heat.
The 10-time World of Outlaws series champion lined up 10th on the grid for the 35-lap feature. The race was slowed several times by periods of cautions and red flags, which ultimately led to an open red for fuel past the halfway point.
For Schatz, just as important as passing cars was avoiding trouble at the tricky three-eighths mile oval. Garet Williamson and Shane Golobic got together on a restart in front of Schatz, and the two cars got upside down to bring out the red. As the race resumed, leaders Corey Day and Kaleb Montgomery made contact racing for the lead to bring out the yellow.
Schatz was able to take advantage of the restarts and the low groove to make passes, but also showed speed up high on the thick Tulare cushion.
Schatz came home fifth at the checkers, marking his best run since departing Tony Stewart Racing after the Knoxville Nationals.
He currently sits solidly in sixth in the point standings as the series marches east for Ohio this weekend.
The Outlaws will return to Millstream Speedway in Findlay for the first time in over 30 years on Friday night for Sheldon Haudenschild’s Buckeye Brawl. Sharon Speedway is on tap for Saturday night.
Schatz has had some great runs at Sharon in recent years. In the last four events, dating back to 2022, Schatz has a win and a pair of runner-up finishes. Schatz will be looking to continue that success as he makes his debut in the JVI Group / Sides Motorsports No. 15 this weekend.
