FARGO, N.D. (October 22, 2022) – The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series made their return to the Dirt Oval at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois. Schatz recorded a sixth and fourth place finish over the weekend and had to work his way forward in both feature events.
The weekend got off to a rocky start as the powerplant expired on Schatz’s No. 15 during qualifying on Friday night, putting him sixth on the grid for the heat race.
Schatz moved up two positions to finish fourth and transferred into the feature where he would line up 15th.
Schatz put on a great drive during the 25-lap feature. The race was originally scheduled for 30 trips around the four-tenths mile oval, but due to cold conditions on the big speedway, concerns of fuel consumption forced World of Outlaws officials to shorten the race.
After a good battle with Sheldon Haudenschild, Danny Samms III, and Gio Scelzi, Schatz crossed under the checkers in the sixth position.
On Saturday night, Schatz came from 10th to become a player for the lead during the feature. Running his pattened low groove, Schatz picked off cars one by one in the early stages of the race until he found himself racing with leaders Buddy Kofoid, Haudenschild and David Gravel.
Schatz, Gravel and Haudenschild all traded positions in the second half of the race with Schatz running as high as third with six to go. Haudenschild found a way around Schatz to take over third late in the going as Schatz went on to finish fourth.
This weekend, the Greatest Show on Dirt heads to Riverside Speedway in West Memphis, Arkansas. Schatz currently sits third in the standings, 168 behind David Gravel.
