FARGO, N.D. (March 9, 2026) – Winless no more. In just his sixth race with the brand-new CJB Motorsports team, Donny Schatz visited Victory Lane on Friday night at the Talladega Short Track with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.
It was a complete night for Schatz. The Fargo driver qualified second overall before winning both his heat race and the dash to earn the pole position for the 35-lap feature.
As the feature got underway, Schatz was chased early by Bryce Lucius before fourth-starting Sheldon Haudenschild moved into second. Running his patented line on the extreme high side of the track, Haudenschild closed in on Schatz in traffic.
With lapped cars running side-by-side right in front of Schatz, Haudenschild erased the 10-time champion’s lead. Running in his familiar groove right in the middle of the track, Schatz was able to sneak by the lappers and put distance between himself and the KCP Racing No. 18 of Haudenschild.
From there, Schatz was uncontested as he went on to snap his 80-race winless streak and score his 317th career World of Outlaws feature victory.
“What can I say about these guys?” said an appreciative Schatz in Victory Lane. “Chad (Clemens) built this team from the ground up, and this team worked their tails off this winter to get us ready.
“We come to Talladega, we qualify well, have a solid performance all night, and get back to Victory Lane… it’s like getting a monkey off your back. I’m still here. I’m still doing what I love. And tonight, I’m in Victory Lane. I feel like we are in a spot where we can keep this going.”
For Schatz, it was his first win at the Talladega Short Track in 12 previous tries at the high-banked red clay oval. The win was also CJB Motorsports’ first World of Outlaws victory since Spencer Bayston took the team to Victory Lane at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in August of 2023. It was also the 53rd Outlaws win for CJB, and Schatz became the sixth different driver to win an Outlaws race with the Pennsylvania-based team.
Saturday night’s event at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Mississippi was canceled due to the high chance of severe weather.
The series now shifts its focus to the upcoming doubleheader at Kennedale Speedway in Texas. In three previous visits to Kennedale, Schatz’s best finish was ninth in 2024.
Schatz currently sits sixth in the point standings, 54 markers out of the lead.
