Donny Schatz will compete in next week’s Prelude to the Dream.

PRACTICE FOR PRELUDE BEGINS

LAWRENCEBURG, IN (May 28, 2012) – Donny Schatz has never raced a dirt late model. In just over a week, he’ll make is debut in the  Prelude to the Dream event at Eldora Speedway. Not only will he be racing at one of the fastest dirt tracks, but he’ll also be racing with some of the best drivers in motorsports. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champions, Indycar champions, NHRA champions and many other accomplished drivers, including his Tony Stewart Racing teammate, 20-time WoO champion, Steve Kinser.

Schatz had the chance on Monday to spend a little time getting comfortable in his No. 15 STP machine. The car is owned by one of the hottest dirt late model drivers in the country, 2008 WoO Late Model champion Darrell Lanigan. Lanigan and his crew were on hand at Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway Monday and Schatz had the chance to make a handful of laps.

Donny and Darrell Lanigan talk dirt late model racing.

“It was a lot of fun,” admitted Schatz. “Darrell and his guys have a great car and I’m honored just to be able to drive it. Being in the Prelude field is pretty remarkable in itself, but being in such a good car and having the chance to work with these guys is really pretty cool.”

Schatz, who has 117 career World of Outlaws A-Feature wins, five Knoxville Nationals wins and four WoO titles, has never raced in a dirt late model. Fans that can’t be part of the expected standing-room only crowd at Eldora on June 6 can catch the race on television by ordering the Pay-Per-View event on HBO Sports.
