Fargo, N.D. (June 18, 2024) – Donny Schatz regained the second spot in the World of Outlaws NOSA Energy Sprint Car Series standings last weekend at Knoxville Raceway in Iowa which culminated in a second place run for Schatz behind the wheel of the CarQuest / Ford Performance No. 15 on night two of the double header on Saturday night.

Friday night at Knoxville saw Schatz end his night with a top ten in the main event though it took hard work and perseverance to get there. A late pill draw in the A Group of Qualifying saw Schatz time in 21st quick, but as he’s done at the famed half-mile oval on the Marion County Fairgrounds many times before, Schatz staged a comeback.

Schatz won the Non-Qualifier heat, charged from 11th to sixth in his heat race, and won the Last Chance Showdown from third.

Starting 21st in the feature, Schatz had 25 laps to climb his way through the field. Schatz did just that and late in the race was inside the top ten, running as high as ninth. A restart with six to go initially cost Schatz three spots but Schatz got two back, finishing with a top ten and winning the KSE Hard Charger Award.

Schatz started night two at Knoxville third quick in his time trial group, won his heat, and charged from seventh to fourth in the dash to start outside of fellow title contender David Gravel on the second row for the second 25-lapper of the weekend.

Schatz grabbed third from Gravel coming off of turn four on a lap six restart as the title contenders battled with Corey Day for second. With ten ten laps to go and the leaders in lapped traffic Day and Schatz caught Logan Schuchart and started a three-car battle for the lead.

With five circuits remaining, Schatz fended off charges by Gravel to remain with a podium spot as Schuchart got into the wall in turn two with four to go. That gave Schatz one last shot at Day for the victory. Schatz remained close in the final laps but finished second.

Schatz’s performance at Knoxville saw him regain the second spot in the Outlaw standings and will head to Huset’s Speedway just 56 markers back of Gravel in his quest for an 11th series title.

Four nights at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, SD lie ahead as the series takes part in the $100,00-to-win High Bank Hustle which starts Wednesday and concludes on Thursday night. Friday and Saturday at Huset’s sees the return of the High Bank Nationals which culminates with the $250,000-to-win feature on Saturday night.

Schatz enters the weekend at Huset’s with four previous Outlaw wins at the quarter-mile bullring. Schatz also has 13 top fives and 27 top tens in 41 Outlaws starts at the track.
